How to Determine the Actual Value of Raw Diamond?

How to Determine the Actual Value of Raw Diamond?

A Raw diamond is a precious stone which hasn’t been cut and shaped in any specific form using a cutter and isn’t polished. Raw diamonds are also known as uncut diamonds or rough diamonds. After mining, the raw diamonds of high quality undergo the cutting procedure. Most women are looking for polished and raw diamonds when looking for jewelry. What about raw stones? They are basically cheaper than cut diamonds per carat. Cutting is a very costly and difficult process. Here’s how to determine the value of a raw diamond.

Clarity

It refers to the number of natural flaws in a raw diamond and how much you can notice them. With few common inclusions, raw diamonds are more valuable than diamonds with several common flaws.

Color

A raw diamond which has a brownish or yellowish tint is stronger but less valuable. On the other side, diamond with less hue is far more valuable. Transparent and colorless diamonds are too rare to find. So, these gems are very costly.

Carat

The carat of a raw diamond is a unit to measure weight (i.e. 1 carat = 200mg).  Bigger stones are rarer and are more valuable. But it is not important that raw diamonds with higher carat cost more than smaller diamonds.

If a rough diamond has a lot of visible flaws that should be cut out, even higher carat of it cannot make it costlier than a smaller or cleaner stone. In short, clarity plays a vital role in pricing of a diamond along with other factors. Should you aspire to decorate your appearance with such priceless motifs, make sure you buy the genuine one. Perhaps consulting an expert is better in this regard, instead of investing your money in a spurious diamond.
