Nature took more than billion years forming Diamond:

Freshly mined diamond is called as Uncut Diamond which is also known and called as Rough Diamond. Diamonds were formed at high temperature and pressure at depths of 150 to 200 kilometers (80 to 125 mi) in the Earth's mantle. Diamond is a pure Carbon. Carbon-containing minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods from 1 billion to 3.3 billion years (25% to 75% of the age of the Earth). Volcanic eruptions in due course, helped bring them up to the surface we call Diamond Mine.

Physical Properties of Diamond:

Color: Most industrial-grade diamond is non-transparent and black in color due to impurities. Gem diamond is usually more transparent (once polished) and occurs in many colors, including: colorless (exceptional white), yellow, red, orange, green, blue, and brown. Shine/Luster: adamantine - the highest level of luster for a nonmetallic mineral. Shapes: Diamonds are formed in many shapes from irregular mackle, cleavage to perfect crystals. Commonly found shapes are Mackle, cleavage and Cube, however Octahedral, Tetrahedral, Dodecahedral, Tetrahexahedral, and perfect Triangle shapes are rare. At Mohs Hardness it is measured at 10 which makes Diamond as the hardest mineral found on earth. The Specific Gravity of a Diamond is between 3.50 and 3.60.
